Rising Military AI Use Sparks Ethical Concerns and Calls for Regulation
Around the world countries are using AI more and more for military stuff. For example Israel uses AI to make lists of people to target and America is trying out big language models for military tasks. Big tech companies like Microsoft and Google are getting in on this too with Google’s old CEO leading a project to make drones that use AI. Even though OpenAI wanted its AI to be used for peaceful things its teaming up with Microsoft shows how complicated things can get when tech meets military needs. Using AI for military stuff makes people think about ethics. While it might seem like a good business move for tech companies there are worries about what happens when AI gets used for weapons. As more countries put money into AI for war, the talk about what’s right and wrong in using tech for fighting will get louder. It shows how important it is to have clear rules and people keeping an eye on how AI is used in war.
