Instagram and Snapchat Used as Tools in Cardona’s Cyberstalking Campaign
A 21-year-old man from Texas named Hugo Iram Cardona Jr. admitted to cyberstalking multiple people, including some in Colorado. He pleaded guilty to three counts of cyberstalking in a federal court in El Paso. The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations found at least 15 victims in Texas, Colorado, and Arizona. Cardona used various Instagram and Snapchat accounts to contact his victims, stealing their intimate photos and videos.

Support and Justice for Cardona’s Victims: FBI Urges Them to Come Forward
He used a sneaky method called “two factor authentication scheme” to get into young women’s Snapchat accounts and steal their private content. Then, he’d threaten to share these images unless the victims apologized to him. He’d even demand that they video chat with him, doing explicit things. These crimes happened between August 2020 and June 2023. If anyone thinks they might be a victim, the FBI urges them to fill out a victim questionnaire or reach out to them directly. Cardona’s sentencing is set for June 3rd. It’s crucial for anyone who might have been targeted by him to come forward so they can receive support and justice.
