Controversial Tennessee Bill Proposes Open Carry of Assault-Style Weapons
Concerns Raised Over Proposed Expansion of Open Carry Laws in Tennessee
A new bill in Tennessee could change the rules on carrying guns. Right now, people can carry handguns openly, but this bill might let them carry any type of gun, even big ones like assault-style weapons. This idea worries some people, especially the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. They say seeing people with long guns outside places like banks or schools could make everyone nervous, including police.

House Republicans think the bill still has a long way to go before becoming law. They say other states have similar laws without causing too much trouble. They believe in expanding freedoms for people in Tennessee. Democrats, like Representative John Ray Clemmons, think the idea is “nuts.” Now, the bill moves to the House Civil Justice Committee and the Senate Finance Committee for more discussion.
