Memphis Tops the List: Tennessee’s Most Dangerous City Revealed in Saturday Night Science Analysis

Challenging Preconceptions: Major Urban Centers Not Necessarily the Most Perilous in Tennessee

A recent analysis conducted by Saturday Night Science, utilizing the latest FBI crime data, has shed light on the most dangerous cities in Tennessee. Surprisingly, while major urban centers like Nashville and Knoxville may come to mind, the data revealed that the title of the most perilous city in the state belongs to Memphis. Delving into the statistics, the analysis considered both violent and property crime rates per capita across 98 Tennessee cities with populations exceeding 5,000 residents. With Memphis topping the list, the findings underscore the complex landscape of crime in Tennessee, challenging preconceived notions about where danger lurks within the state. According to the findings, Tennessee is the fifth most dangerous state in the US, with a violent crime rate of 2,420 incidents per 100,000 people and a property crime rate of 7,165 incidents per 100,000 people. Despite these sobering statistics, Signal Mountain has been named Tennessee’s safest city. Despite the presence of 375 law enforcement organizations and almost 16,000 police officers across the state, issues remain, particularly in communities surrounding large urban hubs such as Chattanooga and Memphis, where the impact of crime is acutely felt by citizens. As communities cope with these realities, efforts to combat crime and improve public safety remain critical to the well-being of Tennessee residents.
