Sayreville Father Arrested for Arson as Son Found Dead in Burning Car
Late on Thursday night in Sayreville, New Jersey, a tragic event occurred when Manuel Rivera, 43, was arrested for arson following the discovery of his 9-year-old son’s body inside a burning automobile. In addition to responding to reports of a burning car outside Sayreville High School, authorities were also contacted by a lady who claimed to have gotten into a fight with Rivera, who had since gone with their son. The car had been purposefully set on fire with gasoline, and Rivera was discovered close to the site suffering from burns and a self-inflicted injury. Although the child’s cause of death was not immediately made public, Rivera is being charged with second-degree arson. Additional legal proceedings will be taken after the boy’s autopsy is completed. The terrible event happened over the summer vacation, which further added community’s shock and grief.
