Republican Opposition
Alternative Solutions
According to Blaze Media after a cargo ship destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, President Joe Biden said he’d use taxpayer money at bridge repair fast. But Republican Dan Meuser from Pennsylvania doesn’t like that idea. He thinks they should find other ways to pay for bridge repair. Meuser says Biden shouldn’t rush to use taxpayer money and should think carefully about other options. He suggests asking Singapore where the ship’s company is to help. He also thinks insurance companies and money from Biden’s infrastructure plan could be used.

Cost Uncertainty and Funding Debate
Nobody knows exactly how much the bridge repair will cost but it could be billions. Meuser’s ideas match what Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said about involving insurance companies and looking for help internationally. But sometimes like in 2007 when a bridge collapsed Congress did use taxpayer money to rebuild. They approved $250 million to fix it quickly. As talks go on it shows how Biden and Republicans have different ideas about using taxpayer money and finding other ways to pay for big projects.
