- Arkansas – Arkansas is worse off overall in more categories even though it doesn’t rank lowest in as many as Mississippi does. Although the poverty level is comparable to that of Mississippians, Arkansas is a much riskier place to live. It’s a poor state with few opportunities, just like the other southern states on our list. To be fair, though, not all gunshots that occur in Arkansas on a daily basis may be the result of criminal activity. Now, what’s fascinating about Arkansas is that, according to a nationwide survey done last year, the Natural State came in at number 10 among the happiest states in the US. Thus, numbers notwithstanding, it appears that nobody gives a damn. Here are a few areas of improvement. You may take part in impromptu hog calls or join an outhouse racing league for entertainment.
- Oklahoma – You were aware that we would bring up Oklahoma sooner rather than later, right? Oklahoma ranks as the fourth worst state for 2024. Oklahoma, where do we even start? To begin with, the state of Oklahoma has the sixth lowest percentage of residents without health insurance. Perhaps surprisingly, given that 43% of Okies own a gun, this state has the sixth-highest rate of property crime in the nation. Here, robbers must simply enjoy taking their chances. Now, while some may claim to adore Oklahoma’s low cost of living, the state’s fourth-lowest property values in the nation clearly indicates that not many people want to live here. - South Carolina – Crime is a major issue in South Carolina, which is the southernmost part of North Carolina. That is the main reason it is ranked sixth for 2024. Unexpectedly, South Carolina has the fourth-highest rate of property crime nationwide. For every year you live in the Palmetto State, there is a 1 in 70 risk that you will become the victim of a property crime. Additionally, South Carolina ranks as the fourth worst state in the nation for online dating, so if you’re hoping to find love here, proceed with caution. Extremely high percentages of poverty and America’s ninth-lowest income levels were further issues. Additionally, this state leads in the quantity of mobile home parks per resident. which, during hurricane season, is very unfortunate news. Nonetheless, there are many reasons to be happy that South Carolina is home. Congratulations to the Tigers! Clemson has won the collegiate football championship multiple times in recent years. Then there are the vendors selling boiled peanuts at each freeway off-ramp. Like regular peanuts, boiled peanuts are just that—cooked. Finally, people travel from all over the world to visit and play golf at the nicest seaside communities on the east coast.
- Alaska – Alaska ranks as the sixth poorest state in the US for 2024. The country’s northern and westernmost states have above-average rates of poverty, unemployment, and violence. Because everything has to be brought up north, the expense of living is actually rather high and the schools aren’t very good. Furthermore, it’s safe to conclude that the state as a whole does poorly on that metric even if we didn’t examine the weather for this analysis. The greatest prevalence of violent crime in the US is likely related to the unfavorable weather and lack of sunshine. Whatever the case, only a specific type of person is drawn to The Last Frontier state. You would also most likely prefer to reside somewhere else in America.
- Missouri – I suppose I should not have relocated to Missouri from North Carolina. Furthermore, even though I reside in the most desirable area of Missouri, just outside of St. Louis, it is evident from the statistics that the state as a whole isn’t doing very well. In terms of statistics, the poverty rate is 12.82%, which ranks tenth worst in the nation. At the sixth worst, violent crimes are comparatively extremely high, particularly in north and central St. Louis. Although I enjoy being near to the city, a large portion of the people lives in the state’s rural areas with little to do. The cost of living is reasonable and housing prices aren’t too high, but you get what you pay for, I suppose.
- Tennessee – As you may already know. There is Tennessee as a whole and there is Nashville. Science says that both are undesirable. Tennessee has the tenth lowest income in the nation, which implies that a large number of people live in poverty and struggle to find good jobs outside of Nashville, the state’s rapidly growing capital.
