Navy Hands Over Vessel and Suspects

According to Punch the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta strengthens maritime security and so handed over a merchant fishing vessel Lily IV and 15 suspects to the Department of Fishery, Ministry of Agriculture, Edo State for further investigation. The suspects and the vessel were transferred to the representative of the Edo Fishery Department, Mr. Iwanegbe America at the Navy base jetty in Warri. The Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Abba Muhsin represented by Navy Capt. Solomon Paul released the vessel and suspects emphasizing that they were apprehended on March 11, 2024 in Forcados, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta for alleged illegal entry into the Maritime Exclusion Zone of the Forcados Oil Terminal Crude Loading Platform.

Scrutiny Reveals Discrepancies
Furthermore by strengthens maritime security Muhsin highlighted that the vessel Lily IV was intercepted and arrested by Nigerian Navy personnel onboard MV Kingston a private maritime security company vessel contracted by Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria Limited. While preliminary investigation showed insufficient evidence regarding the vessel’s entry into the exclusion zone discrepancies were found in crew registration prompting further scrutiny. The commander warned against violating maritime laws within the nation’s territorial waters stressing that offenders would face appropriate sanctions. Upon receiving the vessel and suspects America from the Department of Fishery, Ministry of Agriculture, Edo commended the Navy for their diligence. Expressing gratitude for the cooperation America affirmed that the Department of Fishery would proceed with necessary steps indicating potential prosecutions. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to upholding maritime regulations and ensuring accountability reflecting the collective dedication to maintaining order and security in Nigeria’s territorial waters.
