Persistent Homelessness Despite Federal Spending Efforts in Washington

In Washington state, despite the government spending lots of money to help homeless Americans the number of people without homes keeps going up, according to The Daily Caller published article. Federal agencies like HUD and the VA have given millions of dollars to organizations to try to solve the problem. But even with all this money homelessness in Washington went up by 20% between 2007 and 2023, and during the COVID-19 pandemic it increased by 15.6% between 2020 and 2022.

Persistent Homelessness Despite Government Investment in Washington, Highlighting Shortcomings in Federal Spending

Washington has been struggling to help homeless people even though the government has spent a lot of money. In places like Seattle where many homeless people live, there aren’t enough temporary shelters. The King County Regional Homeless Authority got over $40 million from the government between 2022 and 2023 but the problem is still there. Things like more migrants coming in high costs of living, and the end of COVID-19 help are making it harder.
