New Property Tax Credit Program in Jackson County Offers Financial Relief to Eligible Seniors
Jackson County has introduced a new Senior Property Tax Credit Program to aid older residents in managing their property tax obligations. The program made possible by Senate Bill 190, will freeze the property tax bill for eligible seniors. County Executive Frank White, Jr. emphasized the county’s commitment to enhancing the lives of its senior citizens by providing financial stability through this initiative.
To qualify for the program, Jackson County residents must receive Social Security retirement benefits and meet specific property ownership criteria. The property’s market value must not exceed $550,00 and applicants can only claim one primary residence. Applications for the program are now open, with a deadline of December 31 each year for submission. Successful applicants will start benefiting from the tax credit in 2025, with the base amount determined by the year of approval, ensuring ongoing financial relief unless eligibility changes.
