Solar Tax Credit Program Update Spurs Application Surge
Financial Incentives Drive Solar Adoption
As stated by Yahoo!News, With the update to the Solar Tax Credit program, the Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) of New Mexico is preparing for a spike in applications. During the legislative session, the omnibus tax law (House law 252) was recently passed, and as a result, the program has undergone major modifications to encourage wider participation. One significant change is that tribal property owners are now eligible for tax credits, and the annual ceiling is raised. Furthermore, a twenty million dollar fund has been set aside for applicants who were turned down the first time, giving them another chance to take advantage of the program. Candidates may be eligible for tax credits equal to up to 10% of the cost of installing solar systems under the recently updated Solar Tax Credit program. The purpose of this financial incentive is to encourage the use of solar energy and lessen dependency on conventional energy sources. Through the EMNRD website, interested parties and property owners can immediately submit their applications to have solar systems installed in 2024. The initiative is a big step toward helping New Mexico’s sustainability initiatives and reaching its targets for renewable energy.
