Tenant Protection Cabinet: A Collaborative Initiative to Ensure Safer and Fairer Housing Conditions in New York City
Daily News – New York City Mayor Eric Adams has unveiled a new initiative to support renters in the city called the Tenant Protection Cabinet. This collaborative effort brings together over two dozen city agencies to develop policies and strategies aimed at ensuring safer and fairer housing conditions for tenants. Co-chaired by Deputy Mayor Maria Torres Springer and Executive Director Leila Bozorg the cabinet aims to address the housing affordability crisis and provide relief for working-class New Yorkers.
The Tenant Protection Cabinet will focus on improving information sharing among agencies connecting tenants to resources and using data to target areas of highest need. This initiative comes at a crucial time, following findings from the New York City Housing and Vacancy Survey showing disparities in housing quality based on race or ethnicity. The cabinet aims to address these disparities and ensure all tenants have access to safe and fair housing conditions.
