Debate Intensifies Over Giving Money to Low-Income Individuals: Supporters Highlight Benefits, Opponents Raise Concerns
In some places in the United States, there is a big argument going on about giving money to people who do not have much. Some people like the idea. They say it helps folks pay for things like rent, food, and bills. Dia Broncucia and Justin Searls from Denver got some money every month for a year. It helped them rent a place to live, buy a car and feel better mentally.
But not everyone is happy about these programs. Some politicians, mostly from the Republican party want to stop them. They say giving money to people without making them work for it is bad. They think it is not fair to people who work hard for their money. State Rep. John Gillette from Arizona says these programs are “socialist” and could hurt the economy.
