Louisiana Representative Troy Romero Proposes Restrictions on Unhealthy Food Purchases with SNAP Benefits
Louisiana Rep. Troy Romero is pushing for a change in how SNAP benefits are used to buy food. He wants to restrict buying unhealthy snacks and drinks with these food stamp. Romero thinks this could help people make healthier choices because Louisiana is not doing well health wise compared to other states.

Romero’s SNAP Reform Bill Gains Traction with Support from State Leaders
Under Romero’s bill the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) would work with nutritionists and doctors to teach SNAP users about better food options. The bill has support from Governor Landry and DCFS Secretary David Matlock. Romero believes this move is in line with the purpose of SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, to help people eat better. Similar rules have been put in place in other states to encourage healthier eating habits among SNAP beneficiaries.
