Parents Aware of Son’s Disturbing Behavior but Failed to Act, Allege Prosecutors
Trial Continues as Crumbley Family’s Inaction Under Scrutiny for Tragic Oxford High School Shooting
According to Law and Crime, the trial of James Crumbley, father of Ethan Crumbley who perpetrated the tragic shooting at Oxford High School proceeded with an emotionally charged second day of testimony on Friday. This followed the suspension of James Crumbley’s telephone privileges due to alleged threatening remarks made by him. As the day’s proceedings drew to a close the prosecutors screened footage of the horrifying mass shooting, visibly moving James Crumbley to tears.
James Crumbley faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with his son’s deadly rampage on November 30, 2021 and claiming the lives of four students. Ethan Crumbley, aged 15 at the time, carried out the shooting, targeting classmates and teachers within the school premises. Prosecutors contend that James and his wife, Jennifer Crumbley, were aware of their son’s troubled behavior but failed to intervene to prevent the tragedy. Despite being summoned to the school earlier on the day of the shooting due to alarming drawings found in Ethan’s workbook, they departed without taking decisive action, while Ethan remained behind.
Assistant Principal’s Testimony Details Encounter with Shooter and Attempts to Save a Life
During testimony from Oxford High School assistant principal Kristy Gibson-Marshall, footage of the shooting was screened, depicting the harrowing events as they unfolded. Gibson-Marshall recounted encountering the shooter in the hallway and witnessing the aftermath of the attack, including her attempts to resuscitate one of the victims. The trial continues to illuminate the events leading up to the tragedy and the roles played by James and Jennifer Crumbley in their son’s actions.
