Criticism Mounts Over New Brunswick’s $300 Payment Program: Concerns Raised Over Eligibility and Application Process
Criticism Mounts Over Exclusionary Nature of New Brunswick’s $300 Worker Payment Program
BruNewnswick Premier Blaine Higgs is facing unexpected criticism over his plan to give workers a one time aid assistance of $300. He thought the $75 million program would be seen as good news but some people are upset especially because it doesn’t include everyone like seniors. Higgs said he is used to getting criticism in his job but this time it is different.
The aid assistance is for people who were working and earned $70,000 or less in 2022 or 2023. Only one aid assistance will go to each family. But some like Green Leader David Coon say many are left out like retired people or those with disabilities. Higgs argues the aid assistance payment will help at least 250,000 people but Liberal Leader Susan Holt questions if that number is accurate.

Critics also say the application process is too complicated and slow. People have to provide a lot of paperwork and wait six to eight weeks for their money. They think it should be easier to get help when needed. Overall while Higgs thought he was doing something good the backlash shows that not everyone agrees.
