Applicants Await Updates on Uplift Harris Selection Process
Harris County’s High Demand: Only 2% of 82,000 Applicants to Be Accepted

According to The U.S Sun, Harris County Texas has launched a program that will provide eligible residents with $500 monthly payments for 18 months. To qualify individuals must fulfill specific requirements. Approximately 1,900 families who applied earlier are eagerly anticipating the results of the selection process with the hope of receiving these financial supplements. The Uplift Harris Pilot application portal is now inactive and all individuals who submitted an application will receive updates regarding the status of their submission during the early days of March as per an official announcement displayed prominently on the Uplift Harris website.
Despite an astonishingly high number of 82,000 applications Houston Public Media reports that a mere 2% of those individuals will be fortunate enough to gain acceptance into Harris County. The existence of this Harris County has been made possible through the substantial funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Act. A total of $20.5 million will be allocated to those who demonstrate financial hardship and meet the eligibility criteria. Applicants were required to fulfill three mandatory criteria in order to submit a valid application:
1. Provide proof of financial need
2. Reside within the eligible geographical area
3. Demonstrate that they have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic
To be eligible for the program applicants had to reside in one of the following ten zip codes with high poverty rates: – 77050 – 77093 – 77051 – 77060 – 77028 – 77033 – 77026 – 77081 – 77547 – 77091 (added to the list)
Alternatives for Financial Assistance Beyond Uplift Harris
In order to qualify for Uplift Harris applicants were subject to specific requirements. Firstly they had to be residents of Harris County Texas. Secondly their household income had to be below 200% of the federal poverty level which translates to an annual income of $60,000 for a family of four. Finally applicants were required to be at least 18 years of age.
However it’s important to note that the Uplift Harris program is not the only option available to those in need. Residents of El Paso County Texas, may be eligible for a guaranteed income program that provides $500 monthly payments to qualifying families. While applications for Harris County have not yet opened an estimated 130 to 140 households are expected to be eligible for the financial assistance.
