Sioux County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Onofre Bernardo-Mendez for Sexual Assault.
Sioux County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 47-year-old man, Onofre Bernardo-Mendez, of Sioux Center, Iowa, for Sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 22, at approximately 9:58 p.m. The arrest occurred a mile southwest of Sioux Center.
According to the authorities, Bernardo-Mendez had engaged with a 20-year-old female, whose identity has not been disclose. During the investigation, it was discover that Bernardo-Mendez offered cash to the female to influence her testimony. Bernardo-Mendez was attempting to sway her testimony to better his position. Witness tampering is a serious offense in Iowa and can result in severe legal consequences. It is a criminal act to try to influence or intimidate a witness to change their testimony, and it is considered a direct attack on the justice system.
Bernardo-Mendez is currently in custody, and the authorities have charged him with sex abuse and tampering with a witness.
