Over 600,000 eligible taxpayers in the United States have yet to receive their stimulus check from the Congress Budget passed earlier this year. The $1400 stimulus check was part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Biden. The stimulus package was designed to help the country recover from the financial and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing recession.
Eligibility for the stimulus check was primarily based on income. Individuals earning up to $75,000 per year, heads of households earning up to $112,500, and married couples filing jointly earning up to $150,000 were eligible for the total amount. The check decreased for higher incomes and was phased out entirely for individuals earning $80,000, heads of households with $120,000, and married couples earning $160,000.
Many people in the United States face financial difficulties due to the rising cost of living and a sluggish job market. One way to receive an economic boost is through a stimulus check, even for those not experiencing financial hardship. Most eligible taxpayers have received their $1400 stimulus check from the Federal Government, but the fact that over 600,000 qualified people have yet to receive any stimulus is worrying.
Some states have also offered their citizens rebate payments and stimulus checks, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. These payments have helped these states’ citizens cope with the financial difficulties brought on by the pandemic.
The state of the economy and the ongoing pandemic have made it clear that financial assistance from the government will continue to be necessary for many Americans. The government must ensure that all eligible citizens receive the support they need to survive this challenging time.
