Last Chance to Claim Settlement Payment in Washington D.C. Class Action Lawsuit
For those impacted by the violation of the Second Amendment in Washington, D.C., the deadline to claim the settlement payment is fast approaching. More than 3,000 individuals are estimated to be eligible for the settlement payment, and the last date for submitting a claim form to receive the settlement payment is February 10.
The class action lawsuit was filed in 2015 after six claimants, including four non-D.C. residents, were arrested between 2012 and 2014 for violating the state’s gun control policy. However, the federal court struck down the law and declared it unconstitutional, leading to the settlement agreement.
If you think you are eligible for the settlement payment and want to claim your share, here are the steps you need to take:
Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
To be eligible for the settlement payment, you must not have had a felony conviction before your arrest or prosecution, been convicted of domestic violence misdemeanour within the preceding five years of your arrest or prosecution, been subject to a judicial order regarding firearm possession at the time of your arrest or prosecution, or have been convicted of a felony or violent misdemeanour resulting from your arrest.
Step 2: Fill Out the Claim Form
To file a claim, you need to fill out an online form. You must provide a unique ID number and PIN, as specified in a settlement notice you should have already received. You can contact the Settlement Administrator for assistance if you have not received the notice.
Step 3: Submit Your Claim Form
Once you have completed the claim form, submit it as soon as possible. The last date for submitting the claim form is February 10, so take advantage of the deadline.
According to Top Class Actions, settlement class members can receive “points ” based on past arrests or prosecutions. Each point is expected to be worth $1,200, meaning class members arrested and prosecuted could receive up to $2,400. However, the payments might be reduced depending on the number of claims filed.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the settlement payment, you can check the FAQ section of the Settlement Administrator’s Administrator’s website to ensure your claims are valid.
