Chicago Burglary Incident: Officers Injured, Suspect Escapes After Car Collision

In Chicago‘s Streeterville neighborhood, two police officers were hurt during a Chicago burglary incident. The suspect, still on the loose, hit the officers with a getaway car. The officers stopped the car as it matched the description of one used in a nearby burglary. Alderman Brian Hopkins expressed relief that no one else got hurt during the chaos on DuSable Lakeshore Drive. The incident began when officers interrupted suspects breaking into an ABC work truck in the Gold Coast area.

Video footage shows officers confronting the burglars and the damaged work truck. Acting on information from the scene, officers tried to make an arrest around 7:45 a.m. Hopkins revealed that undercover officers had been deployed in response to recent crime in the area, leading them to catch the burglary in progress. As police attempted to apprehend the suspects, one managed to escape by driving away, injuring both officers in the process.

Hopkins emphasized the bravery of the injured officers, who were simply doing their job of apprehending dangerous criminals. Surveillance cameras captured much of the incident, including the suspect’s escape. Both officers required hospital treatment but were later released. The apprehended suspect was also hospitalized. Meanwhile, the stolen getaway car was found abandoned on the South Side, serving as evidence in the burglary case.
