After receiving claims of a cockfighting ring, the Potter County Sheriff’s Office arrested several people and began an investigation. Today, deputies received complaints of a quarrel between two people at a Byrd addition property and a rooster fighting.
Arrests and Seizures Uncover Illegal Activity in Potter County Sheriff
Deputies found 50 people watching roosters battle illegally in a pen. The battles were organized by 43-year-old Ivan Guadelupe Herrera-Lopez, who was detained on the spot. For the illegal behavior, he was sent to the Potter County Detention Center.
Deputies found drugs and the cockfighting enterprise after a search. Thus, 41-year-old Juana Sanchez Gonzalez was arrested for drug possession, complicating the case.
Over 160 fighting roosters were taken from the premises and taken to the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, illustrating the operation’s magnitude and animal welfare problems.

Potter County Sheriff’s Office’s Ongoing Efforts
Many people at the site were illegally in the US, police learned. Thus, ICE was contacted and intervened to handle immigration problems among those arrested.
