At the Crystal River Bar and Grill in downtown Crystal River, Florida, early on Saturday morning, mayhem broke out. Deputies from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrived on the site in a hurry after hearing about a shooting. Edward James Bennis, 26, was found dead from several gunshot wounds in the parking lot.

Tragic Confrontation Leaves One Dead, Suspect in Custody
The tragic incident stemmed from a heated altercation inside Crystal River Bar involving 24-year-old Gabriel Hugh Trainor. The disagreement spilled outside, where Trainor, in a shocking turn of events, fired multiple shots at Bennis. The victim, an employee at Crystal River Bar Norton’s, had courageously attempted to intervene in the escalating dispute. Tragically, Bennis succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Mike Prendergast expressed heartfelt condolences to Bennis’s grieving family and underscored the gravity of the situation. Emphasizing the danger Trainor posed to others, the Sheriff confirmed that the 24-year-old suspect is now in custody. Trainor was apprehended at the CCSO Emergency Operations Center and is currently held without bond at the Citrus County Detention Facility, facing charges of Second-Degree Murder.
