Finding Out About Vancouver’s Areas Problems
According to the Southwest Journal, Vancouver has some problems hidden behind its beautiful appearance. This led to a trip into the city’s darkness to see the areas that have earned the scary title of “most dangerous” in 2024.

Vancouver’s 10 Most Dangerous Areas
1. downtown, east side
The Downtown Eastside of Vancouver used to be busy but is now having a hard time. More drugs are being used, according to the cops and the CBC. Fentanyl kills or hurts a lot of people. The city gives out clean needles to keep people from getting sick, but theft and break-ins are going up. Melissa Green says that shops in her area are battling for money and safety.
2. Marpole
Marpole is both old and new, but safety is important. Homes are getting broken into more often, so people buy security systems. At night, the cops are out more, and neighborhood watch groups are helping to fight crime. It costs a lot to clean up a community center that has been spray painted.
3. Hastings-Sunrise
Hastings-Sunrise has problems, even though it has a lot of culture. The police want to cut down on gang fights. Be careful and call the cops if you see anything fishy. Since cars are stolen so often, the neighborhood needs more lights and guards.
4. West End
It doesn’t help that the West End has a lot of excitement. There are fights in the streets. When you drink too much, bad things happen. Police and people are worried about how to keep things safe and fun at the same time.
5. Grandview-Woodland
Even though Grandview-Woodland has quiet homes and busy streets, it is in bad shape. More and more small things are being stolen, so the city tells everyone. To stop theft, more cameras are being used. It’s hard to help homeless people, but the city and other groups do their best.
6. Mount Pleasant
Bikes are often stolen from Mount Pleasant’s stylish shops and cafés. Environmentalists ride bikes here. Nearby people are helping and protecting each other to fix this. Also, bike parks are being locked up. Even though it’s noisy, they’re finding ways to calm down.
7. Kerrisdale
Beautiful Kerrisdale, but scammers target older people. Everyone in this group learns these ways to fight back. People put up speed bumps to slow down cars that are going too fast.
8. Kitsilano
Kitsilano’s beaches and parks are popular with tourists, but traffic can be annoying. Fights could start if people drink too much. Because it’s so famous, some people sell it without a license. The neighborhood is working to fix these problems and keep the good things about them.
9. Renfrew-Collingwood
Some of Renfrew-Collingwood’s cool old things break. People use cameras to keep an eye on and protect these things. It’s dangerous to race on the street at night. Police are checking out cars and telling kids about the dangers.
10. Fairview
The views of Fairview are good and bad at the same time. People who are bad target IT companies. Internet safety is being looked into by businesses to avoid this. There are also problems with buses. Buses have more guards during busy times, and people are told to be careful.
