Chief Moore Vows Justice in Revenge Porn Probe as Illicit Images of Officer Surface Online

This week, an internal probe revealed a disturbing example of revenge porn in the department. On Thursday, LAPD Chief Michel Moore revealed that illegal and intimate images of the employee had been posted online, potentially by a former officer.

Chief Moore revealed that the Internal Affairs Division has opened a complaint investigation to determine if any present department employees committed this misbehavior. The LAPD is also working with a criminal investigative agency.

California explicitly prohibits nonconsensual intimate image distribution. Revenge porn laws were expanded in 2020 and 2022, giving victims more civil action options. Chief Moore promised to safeguard the employee and hold those responsible accountable while the LAPD investigated.

LAPD Under Fire: Chief Moore Warns of Firings and Prosecutions in Revenge Porn Scandal as Troubling Pattern Emerges

Chief Moore warned that if the inquiry found a department employee guilty of this significant misbehavior, they might be fired and prosecuted.

This event continues the LAPD’s legal battles over revenge porn instances involving its officers. Last December, Officer Brady Lamas was charged with distributing personal photos of his wife, an officer, without her knowledge. Lawfully rejecting the charges, Lamas awaits trial.

In September 2022, LAPD Captain Lillian Carranza won $4 million in civil court. The jury found that the department did not intervene sufficiently when officers disseminated a topless photo of a lady other than her. These incidents reveal a worrying LAPD pattern, triggering public attention and pricey legal settlements for the city. The current inquiry highlights law enforcement’s struggles to handle internal misbehavior and ensure accountability.
