The Yangtze-Mississippi Municipality Energy Transition Exchange project, organized by the U.S. Heartland China Association, brought together six American mayors for a two-way exchange with the Chinese government.

Mayors Embrace Chinese Green Energy Practices
Carmel, Indiana’s Jim Brainard, Columbia, Missouri’s Barbara Buffaloe, Shelby County, Tennessee’s Lee Harris, Jackson, Mississippi’s Chokwe Lumumba, Rochester, Minnesota’s Kim Norton, and Oxford, Mississippi’s Robyn Tannehill were among the mayors who traveled.
The explicit goal of the exchange was to help communities along the two main rivers share best practices, with a focus on “energy transition, climate mitigation, and green economy.”
During their visit to Voyah Automobile, a Chinese state-owned luxury car manufacturer that specializes in electric vehicles, the two sides explored potential collaboration options. Claiming sales in China, Turkey, Russia, Israel, and Belarus among other countries.

Bold Initiatives to Drive Change
The alliance’s bold initiatives include investing in clean energy projects, promoting public transportation, and implementing policies to reduce carbon footprints. Mayors are determined to lead by example and inspire other regions to follow suit.
This collaboration goes beyond borders, emphasizing the interconnectedness of environmental challenges. By sharing knowledge, technology, and resources, the mayors aim to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
