Police arrived before 5:30 p.m., according to accounts. The pair was discovered with several stab wounds and died after being taken to a nearby hospital. The tragedy shook neighbors and acquaintances.
Fox 5 NYC said that neighbors accused the couple’s 46-year-old son, who was “disturbed,” of the crime. Reports said the son locked himself in the home and was taken out on a stretcher on Saturday night, although police would not corroborate this.

“He was mentally ill, and they loved him and thought he would be fine,” said resident Shmiel Weiss, expressing the community’s difficulty in reconciling the troubling occurrences with their view of the family.
The son, whose actions shocked and saddened the community, faces charges. The New York City Police Department has not commented on the inquiry as of the latest reports. The tragedy highlights the difficulties mental health families confront and the destructive effects they may have.
