$9,000 for Selected Residents in Houston, Texas
Selected Americans in Harris County, Houston, Texas will receive a total cash assistance of $9,000 for 18 months. Each eligible resident will receive $500 as long as they meet the criteria, and the application started on January 12, 2024.
In a published article in The U.S. Sun, the “UPLIFT Harris” program is funded by the American Rescue Plan worth $20.5 million. Around 1,928 eligible residents will be selected through a randomized lottery and the first round of payment will begin this March.

Who Are Qualified?
According to a published article in CLICK2HOUSTON, applicants must meet the following four criteria:
- You must reside in one of the targeted zip codes: 77050, 77093, 77051, 77060, 77028, 77033, 77026, 77081, 77547, 77091.
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
- Your household income must fall at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
- You must be a US citizen or non-citizen with a legal status.
Furthermore, Harris County judge Lina Hidalgo said at commissioners court that undocumented immigrants cannot apply for the said program because “UPLIFT Harris” is with federal funds.
In a statement he said, “Unfortunately, we won’t be able to, because this program is with federal funds, we won’t be able to offer this program to the undocumented population.”
