The Black Researchers Collective and Identity Theft Resource Center discovered that almost half of African Americans they interviewed had experienced identity theft in the preceding few years. When questioned about bank accounts, credit cards, and family frauds in major towns, they found several.

Identity theft prevention and future planning
The research indicated that family members occasionally stole names. Dr. Glenance Green of the Black Researchers Collective stated Black families depend on one other, making it difficult to fix these challenges. The research indicated that victims may not be believed or helped. Experts recommend protecting sensitive information, using strong passwords, and being extra cautious online to prevent identity theft. ID Theft Resource Center and Black Researchers Collective wish to collaborate and study. They hope to prevent identity theft in Black areas by teaching individuals to protect their personal data.
