Marquise Cooper, a third suspect in Oakland police officer Tuan Le’s shooting, was charged with murder. In connection with Officer Le’s death, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price charged 34-year-old Marquise Cooper with first-degree murder, conspiracy, and burglary. Cooper is being jailed without bond and will be arraigned in Oakland on Tuesday.
Murder Charges Filed Against Third Suspect in Oakland Police Officer’s Shooting
Mark Demetrius Sanders, 27, and Allen Starr Brown, 28, were charged with murder earlier this month. Fourth defendant Sebron Ray Russell, 28, was charged with burglary before the shooting. Sanders’s mother, Felicia Williams, 48, was arrested on January 4 for facilitating his escape. She was released because prosecutors did not charge her.
Officer Tuan Le was shot and died on December 29, 2023, while responding to a cannabis business burglary on Oakland’s Embarcadero near Fifth Avenue. Le was shot while driving an unmarked vehicle in plain clothes. He died at about 8:45 a.m. at Highland Hospital after being transferred by other police.
Recent reports have prompted no immediate response from the District Attorney’s Office.
