Oregon Governor Tina Kotek announced recently that she signed two executive orders that will address homelessness in the state.

Housing is Oregon’s Top Priority

Homelessness is one of the country’s biggest problems and Oregon Governor Tina Kotek makes sure that this problem will be addressed in her state. Gov. Kotek announced recently that she signed two executive orders addressing homelessness in the state.

In a published article in Yahoo News, the governor said that she would be making a $500 million housing production package her top priority during the upcoming legislative session. The one-time dollars funding “a menu of tools” will jumpstart housing production.

What You Should Know About the Executive Orders?

According to a published article in KTVL, the first executive order declared a state of emergency around homelessness, directing state agencies to prioritize reducing homelessness and setting housing production goals. Meanwhile, the second executive order extend the homelessness state of emergency and renew goals to maintain additional capacity in Oregon’s shelter system, rehouse additional people experiencing homelessness, and prevent more people from becoming homeless.

Furthermore, Kotek had set a goal of 600 shelter beds, rehousing 1,200 households and preventing 8,750 households from becoming homeless statewide.
