Redden’s Violent Assault on Judge Leads to Sentencing and Ongoing Legal Battles

In court last Wednesday, Redden sprang from the defendant’s table, over the judge’s seat, and assaulted Judge Holthus.

The judge’s clerk and others quickly pulled Redden off after the attack. They allegedly struck and kicked Redden in defense. One courtroom marshal was hospitalized with a cut and dislocated shoulder after the fight.

Redden saw Judge Holthus for the first time since the distressing incident on Monday. His previous battery sentence was the focus of last week’s hearing. Redden was before the judge with his hands shackled and tied in orange protectors, restrained and wearing a spit mask. For battery, the sentence was four years in prison with a 19-month minimum sentence before early release.
