Utility Tax and Sewer Rebates Offer Financial Relief to Low-Income Seniors in Las Vegas”

The City of Las Vegas is extending a helping hand to low-income seniors by launching a rebate program aimed at easing the financial burden of utility taxes. Eligible seniors may receive rebates on franchise taxes paid for local utilities, covering electric power, landline telephone, and natural gas. Additionally, low-income homeowners meeting the criteria can apply for partial rebates on their annual sewer bills for primary residences within the city. The initiative aims to provide crucial financial support to seniors facing economic challenges.

Qualification Criteria and Application Process

To qualify, seniors must be at least 60 years old, with individuals earning less than $16,500 and married couples or heads of households making less than $18,900 annually. Applicants are required to submit copies of their 2023 utility bills, including NV Energy, Southwest Gas, and CenturyLink/Cox Communications, along with photo identification, proof of income, proof of bill payment, and other supporting documents.

Application forms are not available online. Interested seniors must schedule appointments at designated locations, including the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, Doolittle Community Center/Active Adult Center, Dula Community Center, East Las Vegas Community Center, and Howard Lieburn Senior Center.

The application period spans from January 2 to March 15, 2024, providing a window for eligible seniors to seek financial assistance through this rebate program.

Various community centers are offering appointment slots for seniors to apply. Locations include Centennial Hills, Doolittle, Dula, East Las Vegas, and Howard Lieburn. Each center has specific days and times available for appointments, facilitating a streamlined process for applicants.
