In 2024, SSDI and SSI users may expect more cash assistance. A new cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) would boost Social Security income by 3.2% to offset rising food, gas, and other expenditures. Millions of US seniors suffering economic uncertainty will appreciate this adjustment.

Social Security and SSI Beneficiaries Navigate a Scheduled Approach to COLA Increase

SSI and Social Security beneficiaries will begin a phased-in payment schedule in January to reflect the 3.2 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) rise in 2024. Initial expanded SSI payments were planned for December 29, 2023, to accommodate the January 1, 2024 holiday. January 3 for beneficiaries who started receiving benefits before May 1997; January 10 for those born between January 1 and January 10; January 17 for those born between January 11 and January 20; and January 24 for those born between January 21 and January 31.

The additional payments will be distributed smoothly and planned in phases to help Social Security and SSI claimants on time. The timetable simplified the procedure for a broad group of recipients by taking into account parameters like birthdates and benefit start dates.
