Americans Need to Wait as Christmas Closes Mail, Banks, and Government.
According to The US SUN report, during Christmas, they’re not sending out payments like tax rebates because the mail and government services, including banks, are closed. But don’t worry, it’s just a short wait because everything will be back to normal on Tuesday, December 26. In Alabama, people are getting a one-time tax rebate, and the checks started going out on December 1. If you filed your taxes in Alabama in 2021, you might qualify for a share of the $2.8 billion surplus. Just make sure your address is updated on the state’s tax portal by December 29.

Apart from tax rebates, different states are creating new ways to help out. In Alabama, there’s a federal program giving homeowners up to $25,000 to fix their houses, which is helpful because there’s not enough housing in many places. Vermont is doing something cool too, offering a tiny home grant of up to $50,000 for people who want to build an apartment on their property. New Jersey is also giving money to homeowners and renters through an updated program. Social Security recipients are getting extra money called COLA payments to help with the increasing cost of living. So, even though the big pandemic aid is slowing down, there are still new programs to help out in different ways.
