3. North Adams: Despite its tourism and culture, North Adams, with 12,620 residents, is becoming hazardous. It has the second-highest burglary rate in the state and the 16th-highest rape rate, highlighting the need for vigilance.

4. Worcester: Worcester, New England’s second-largest city, is Massachusetts’ fourth most dangerous. In 2020, Worcester reported one murder per month and 1,169 violent offenses, raising safety worries among its 184,850 residents.

5. Hadley: Hadley, with 5,352 residents, shows that tiny communities aren’t always safer. Hadley, Massachusetts’ fifth most hazardous city, has the 59th highest percentage of rape cases, 25% of all violent crimes.

6. Brockton: Brockton, 25 miles south of Boston, is Massachusetts’ sixth most dangerous city. Although it has a rich history, its 99,171 residents had the fifth-highest violent crime rate in the state in 2020, with 752 incidences.

7. Boston: Boston is the fifth most dangerous city in Massachusetts despite its lively neighborhoods and cultural significance. The 697,323-person city reports 58 deaths and 184 sexual assaults in 2020, emphasizing vigilance.

8. West Springfield: West Springfield, across the Connecticut River from Springfield, ranks seventh in Massachusetts for hazard. Though less violent than Springfield, its property crime rate is nearly as high, warranting attention in this 28,437-person community.

9. Pittsfield: Pittsfield, Berkshire County’s biggest city, is Massachusetts’ seventh most hazardous. Pittsfield’s five burglaries a week in 2020 raise worries despite its robust arts scene.

10. Chicopee: Chicopee, between Holyoke and Springfield, is Massachusetts’ ninth most dangerous city. Although its violent crime rate is lower than nearby cities, its property crime rate is high, showing the city’s struggles despite its past and community.
