Emphasis on Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy

The IRS is bolstering energy efficiency and clean energy initiatives through two primary tax credits: the energy-efficient home improvement credit and the residential clean energy property credit. The energy-efficient home improvement credit now allows for a 30% refund (subject to limits) for Energy Star-certified device installations and other energy enhancements, capped at a new $1,200 annual limit.

Specific products such as water heaters, heat pumps, biomass stoves, and boilers offer separate credit limits, enabling potential annual returns of up to $3,200 for significant energy-efficiency upgrades.

Additionally, the residential clean energy credit extends a 30% tax break for expenses tied to qualified improvements leveraging alternative power sources like solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy—a credit slated to continue until 2033.
