According to 14 News report, on Thursday afternoon in Evansville, the police got a call about someone trying to steal a truck at Michigan Street and Ninth Avenue. When they got there, they found witnesses and the suspect, Destiny C. Bretz, near a yellow dump truck with a trailer carrying a John Deere backhoe. A person who saw everything told the police that Bretz got into the truck and tried to drive away, but he blocked her with his own truck. Another person blocked her from the back. Bretz admitted she took the truck and trailer to start a side business, but didn’t say what kind. The police found out that Bretz was already in trouble for stealing in Evansville, and she had admitted to messing with a vehicle in Missouri. Because of this, Bretz got arrested for several theft charges and is now in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bail. This whole situation shows how people stepping in can stop a crime, and it also sheds light on the struggles with repeat offenders in the community. The police are grateful to the alert witnesses who helped catch the suspect and prevent the theft.
