Nearly 2,000 residents in Harris County, Texas will receive an amount of $500 a month for 18 months as part of the guaranteed income program “Uplift Harris”.
$500 for 18 Months
Harris County in Texas will officially open its application portal for the guaranteed income program called “Uplift Harris” which will send $500 a month for 18 months to eligible residents. The program was approved by the Harris County Commissioners in June and is funded by an amount worth $20.5 million in American Rescue Plan Funds.
In a published article in CHRON, Harris County is the state’s largest and first to launch the program. Eligible residents can use $500 monthly payments for their rent, groceries, transportation, housing and utilities, and health care. Meanwhile, Cook County in Chicago and Los Angeles County also launched similar programs.

Eligibility and Application
According to an article published in Houston Chronicle, this program will direct residents in the neighborhoods of Forest Acres, Acres Homes, South Park, East Six Jensen, Sunnyside, Northgate, Greater Fifth Ward, Settegast, Gulfton, and Galena Park.
Moreover, the guidelines showed that 200 percent below the poverty line equals $29,160 per individual. A family of four with a maximum income of $60,000 is also eligible. Applicants must be 18 or older to apply. Applicants should submit their online interest form through this link.
