Millions of Americans across the country will benefit from Alphabet’s Google  $700 million settlement after it was accused of overcharging consumers.

$700 Million from Alphabet’s Google

The state of Utah, the lead plaintiff, filed a lawsuit against Alphabet’s Google for overcharging consumers through unlawful restrictions on the distribution of apps on Android devices and unnecessary fees for in-app transactions. However, Google did not admit any wrongdoing.

In a published article in NBC News, Google agreed to pay a total amount of $700 million settlement. $630 million into a settlement fund for consumers and $70 million into a fund that will be used by states. Moreover, this still requires final approval from the judge.

Google Released A Statement

According to an article published in CNN News, Wilson White, Google vice president for government affairs and public policy, said, “The settlement builds on Android’s choice and flexibility, maintains strong security protections, and retains Google’s ability to compete with other (operating system) makers, and invest in the Android ecosystem for users and developers.”

Furthermore, the company said that the company plans the ability of app and game developers to provide consumers an alternative billing option for in-app purchases next to Play’s billing system.
