According to CBS News report, in the past, students had to put in a lot of work to get into the Ivy League and other top colleges. This includes getting good grades, doing well on tests, and writing interesting articles. But a new trend has come up: private college advisers. These experts are aimed at rich families who want to get ahead in the admissions process, which is getting harder and harder. The prices these expert consultants charge can go as high as $750,000, and they offer a wide range of services to tip the balance in their clients’ favor. The demand for these kinds of experts has gone up at the same time that the number of people accepted into elite schools has gone down. Harvard University only accepted about 3.5% of the applications for the class of 2027. This is a big drop from 1980, when they took almost 16% of the applications. Usually, these experts start working with students as early as middle school. They help them develop their hobbies and talents so that they can make a strong case for getting into the school. Some people support the experts because they think they help a lot, but others say they make educational inequality worse because they give rich people an unfair advantage in a system that is already very competitive. Because of what happened after Varsity Blues, which showed illegal ways to get into college, the process of getting in has become even more complicated. There are a lot of issues and risks that kids and their families face because of this debate.
