According to The Daily Beast, Russian state media, especially Putin’s TV supporters, see Senate Republicans’ failure to fund Ukraine’s counteroffensive as a sign that the US is losing interest in the war. Some talk show hosts, like Olga Skabeeva of 60 Minutes, say it’s good for Russia that Democrats and Republicans got into a heated fight at a recent Biden administration defense meeting. Another host says that the fighting will show other countries how dangerous it is to be a friend of the United States. The study emphasizes the idea that U.S. friends are more dangerous than enemies, with The Beast saying that they will leave you with “burned dirt.”
On Capitol Hill, people are talking about giving Ukraine more military aid. Speaker Mike Johnson of the House of Representatives is tying approval to the controversial H.R. 2 bill, which Democrats don’t trust. Even though Johnson said he would keep talking, it looks like negotiations are still going on. There are different views on helping Ukraine, but Senate Republicans show more support by tying financial aid to Democratic compromises on border security. Republicans saw this as “hijacking” when Democratic senators told Defense Department staff to stress how important it is to help Ukraine at a meeting with leaders and members of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. It was planned for President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend, but he cancelled at the last minute.
