California citizens receive a one-time Middle-Class Tax Refund (MCTR) to ease the financial impact of rising prices. The FTB estimates that 32 million California taxpayers and their dependents have gotten assistance from this program.
Are you qualified or not?
These are the requirements in able to receive the payment:
- You filed your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021.
- You meet the California adjusted gross income (CA AGI) limits.
- Were not eligible to be claimed as a dependent in the 2020 tax year
- Was a California resident for six months or more of tax year 2020.
- Is a California resident on the date the payment is issued.

What should you do if your payment hasn’t arrived?
If you haven’t received your payment by February 14, 2023, ensure it’s not in your bank account by checking your statements. Most eligible individuals got their payment between October 2022 and February 2023. Verify for a deposit labeled “FTB MCT REFUND MCT REFUND.”
If missing, check your California state refund status online at https://webapp.ftb.ca.gov/refund/login.
Provide your Social Security Number, address numbers, zip code, and the exact refund amount, then click “Check your refund.”
