Gov. DeSantis: $1 Million For Lawsuit Expenditure for the Conflict That May Occur

After winning the Atlantic Coast Conference and going unbeaten, the Seminoles finished sixth. The squad trailed Alabama, which won the SEC 12-1. The 12-1 Big 12 Texas Longhorns, undefeated Big Ten Michigan Wolverines, and undefeated Pac-12 Washington Huskies complete the top four. DeSantis said in a Tuesday news conference that “we’re setting aside a million dollars for any lawsuit expenditures that may occur as a result of this frankly, incredibly terrible decision by the College Football Playoff to eliminate an undefeated team that won a significant Power Five conference. “Our school, Florida State, went unbeaten and won the conference title. They made the college football playoffs and were excluded, which was highly contentious, he said. The governor fiercely criticized the extraordinary decision to exclude an unbeaten Power Five conference winner from the postseason on Sunday.

The College Football Playoff committee will ignore undefeated teams and conference title wins, as we discovered today. Congratulations to Florida State on a great season and ACC title!” Twitter (X) was where DeSantis posted. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) also criticized the action, writing to the committee seeking “total transparency” on the Seminoles’ exclusion. Scott requested decision-related text, emails, and notes from the committee. According to Scott, the Committee’s decision to remove FSU from playoff contention is particularly difficult to fathom considering the Committee’s previous actions in rating other unbeaten Power Five conference champions among the top four teams in the country. Scott acknowledged that the team’s star player’s season-ending injury may have influenced the decision. Scott claimed the committee “wrongly” ignored the team’s unblemished record “because of a single player.” Seminoles will meet Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, 2023.”
