A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for a portion of Northern Michigan due to the possibility of being affected by lake-effect snow bands that are especially heavy. Thursday evening will mark the beginning of the event, which will continue until Friday.
Snow Accumulations
According to meteorologists working in the Gaylord office of the National Weather Service, portions of the region close to Sault Ste. Marie might receive as much as six inches of snow by Friday. A couple of inches of snow could fall in certain regions, such as Traverse City and Grayling, as well as those that are located north of the Mackinac Bridge. A few inches of snow could possibly fall over the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula by the early morning hours of tomorrow. The Winter Weather Advisory for central Chippewa County will be in effect from tonight at nine o’clock until Friday at one o’clock this afternoon. The cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Brimley, Kinross, and Sugar Island are included in its scope of coverage.
The National Weather Service (NWS) advisory warns that there is a possibility of two to six inches of snow accumulations across the whole region. It is anticipated that the heaviest accumulations would occur east of a line that extends from Bay Mills to Kelden, which includes Sault Ste. Marie. This region’s commute on Friday morning could be slowed down by roadways that are slick with snow.
