If you are a snowbird who is looking for a break from the winter weather but doesn’t want to settle for a more popular sun-soaked area, a new study has found some “hidden gem” cities that will allow you to avoid the cold as well as the crowds.
Snowbird Friendly Cities to Avoid Winter Weather
Research that was published in Architectural Digest assessed the snowbird friendliness of 75 different cities across the United areas. Snowbird season normally runs from October to April and draws large numbers of people to warmer areas like Texas, Arizona, and Florida. To establish which locations are best suited for snowbirds, the cities were rated according to the availability of homes and lodging, the ratings on Yelp for activities and restaurants, the home sale prices, and the winter weather conditions. Each place is required to include highly rated but less well-known establishments, and they must only have between six and seventy-five reviews on Yelp, “indicating that they are still relatively undiscovered,” to be called a “hidden gem destination.”
According to the findings of the study, Gilbert, Arizona, had the most “hidden gem” pubs and restaurants on Yelp, and New Orleans, Louisiana, came in second place. People who want to enjoy the peace of the great outdoors should head to Mobile, Alabama, because according to the findings of certain researchers, the city has a wealth of hiking trails that are highly ranked and see relatively little foot traffic. This makes it the best destination for people “who want to enjoy the great outdoors.”
