Homeowners in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina can take advantage of the $660 tax assistance if they apply before the extended deadline. The program was made after the significant increase that residents saw in their property tax bills.
In a published article in The U.S. Sun, the county worked with the nearby city of Charlotte to provide additional assistance to qualified homeowners who struggle to pay their property taxes. This program is called HOMES which reduces the tax burden.

How to Qualify the Tax Assistance?
According to a published article in WBTV, around 40,000 residents will receive the tax assistance and the deadline for application is on December 15. Here are the eligibility criteria:
- Homeowners must have lived in Mecklenburg County for at least three consecutive years.
- Fund recipients cannot earn more than 80% of the area’s median income based on the number of people in the household.
Furthermore, the median income will be determined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. So far, around 4,000 residents have received the tax assistance.
