Alabama Governor Just Approved the Distribution of State Rebates

The Education Trust Fund surplus of $2.8 billion funded the program. Couples will receive $300 and individuals $150 one-time payments. About 1.9 million state residents will receive one-time state rebates. Starting November 30, checks will be sent. Paper and direct deposit tax return filers will receive the rebate the same way. “When the state had a historic budget surplus this year, Governor Kay Ivey proposed a one-time tax rebate for working Alabamians,” an Alabama Department of Revenue representative told The U.S. Sun.

There are several requirements to receive the cash. First, 2021 taxes must be filed by October 17, 2022. Additionally, Alabama residents cannot have been claimed as dependents. Residents will receive $260 million from a $2 billion budget surplus. This is the first state rebate in decades. Arizona Senator Jake Hoffman stated that this is the first time in at least 30 years that the state legislators have stepped up to deliver tax relief of this scale to the folks.
