Montana Tax Rebate 2023: Up To $2,500 Were Sent to Eiligible Residents in Montana

A legislation was passed and signed into law in Montana that will send an amount of up to $2,500 to eligible residents in Montana.

Lawmakers in Montana passed legislation and the state Gov. Greg Gianforte signed it into law that will send a one-time tax rebate to eligible residents. A historic surplus budget of $899 million was allotted for the income and tax rebates.

In a published article in MARCA, the one-time tax rebates in Montana were based on the Individual Income Tax Rebate, which is essentially a rebate of 2021 Montana individual income taxes. The amount that eligible residents received depend on the 2021 filing status and the total tax paid in the same year.

Eligibility for the Montana Tax Rebate 2023

According to an article published in Montana Free Press, the head of household, or married filing separately, your rebate will be either $1,250 or the line 20 amount, whichever is less. Meanwhile, married filing jointly taxpayers are eligible for rebates of $2,500 or the line 20 amount, whichever is less.

The eligibility criteria for the Montana Tax Rebate 2023 are the following:

  • You were a resident of Montana for the entire 2021 tax year, starting on January 1, 2021.
  • You filed a 2020 Montana resident or part-year resident return.
  • You filed a 2021 Montana resident tax return.
  • You filed both your 2020 and 2021 Montana tax returns by the due date for the tax year 2021, including extensions.
  • You were not claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer for federal or Montana income tax purposes in tax year 2021.
  • Line 20 of your 2021 Montana Form 2 shows an amount greater than zero.

Furthermore, there is no need for eligible taxpayers to take action to take the claim. The revenue department of the state will send it automatically.
