The victim, a private carrier mail delivery driver, said the gunman confronted him while looking up an address on the side of the road.
Suspect Detained After Shooting Delivery Driver
One man was detained by Bryan Police for shooting a delivery driver Monday afternoon. The suspect, Justin Eugene Sims, 41, was charged with deadly conduct, firearm discharge, and illegal carrying. Police rushed to Finfeather Road and Cottage Grove Cr. at 3:27 p.m. after receiving a report that someone had shot another. Police located the victim in his car but not the suspect. According to police, the victim, a private carrier delivery driver, was parked in the 1100 block of Cottage Grove looking up an address on his phone when Sims and another man asked him why he was there.
The victim tried to drive away, but Sims and the other man chased him in a pickup, authorities said. Sims pulled in front of the victim, stopping them, then exited the vehicle with the other man and pointed a gun at him. Sims and the other man asked the victim what he was doing once he got out of his car. The victim claimed to deliver mail. As the victim drove passed Sims, he reportedly fired the revolver at his vehicle, hitting the rear passenger side tire. Sims got back in his car and pursued the victim to an intersection before turning around and returning home. Police located Sims and the shooting gun at his residence. He originally lied to authorities, but after the pistol was found, Sims admitted to shooting. Sims was set free last Tuesday on $12,000 bail.
